HIGHLIGHTS: A White-winged Black Tern was at High Rid Reservoir (11th-15th). A Great White Egret was on Red Moss, Horwich (13th). A Little Egret was at Elton Reservoir (1st and 17th). A Honey Buzzard and Merlin flew over Winter Hill (30th), with a Marsh Harrier there (7th, 16th and 29th). A Black Tern was at Elton Reservoir (26th). Ospreys flew over Winter Hill and Blackrod (7th and 17th), Radcliffe (13th), Chorlton WP (19th) and Pilsworth (30th). ELTON RESERVOIR: A Tree Pipit flew over (1st), as did a Hobby (17th) and Merlin (22nd). There was a Ruff (16th-22nd), Knot (22nd), Common Sandpiper, Ringed Plover, Dunlin, four Sandwich Terns (22nd), a Common Scoter (19th), Scaup (2nd-4th), three Pintails (27th), two Whinchats, three Yellow Wagtails, a Wheatear, Spotted Flycatcher and Stonechat.
MERSEY VALLEY: One or two Pintails were on Shell Pool (9th-30th). A Green Sandpiper was at Altrincham ETW (1st). Five Ring-necked Parakeets were at Chorlton Ees. Two Ravens, a Peregrine and four Buzzards were in the Carrington Moss area. PENNINGTON FLASH: A Hobby flew over (22nd) and a Peregrine was seen (25th). A Knot dropped in (16th). Waders included a Greenshank (1st-10th), three Green Sandpipers, a Common Sandpiper, Black-tailed Godwit and Ringed Plover. A Common Scoter was seen (1st) with two (15th). Five Arctic Terns flew through (3rd). Mediterranean Gulls were seen (2nd and 12th). A late Swift flew over (27th). A Pintail was present.
OTHER SITES: Ten Curlew Sandpipers were on Little Woolden Moss, with a Little Stint and Turnstone (5th-10th), a Wood Sandpiper (10th-11th) and Grey Plover (16th). Two Common Scoters were on High Rid Reservoir (19th-20th). Two Twite flew over Horrock’s Moor (16th), with a peak of 44 Wheatears in the area. Six Hobbies were at Horwich Moors (7th). A Rock Pipit, three Common Sandpipers, two Wheatears and a Whinchat were at Audenshaw Reservoirs (21st). A Black Redstart was in Manchester Town Hall area. Two Whinchats, two Redstarts, three Spotted Flycatchers, a Crossbill and Red-breasted Merganser were at Horwich Moors. Two Wheatears were at Salford Docks.
