TIREE: A Swain­son’s Thrush at Bale­phuil (22nd-23rd), was the first Ar­gyll record. Also there was a Com­mon Rosefinch (12th), Dot­terel, Tur­tle Dove (4th-5th), Reed War­bler (3rd-4th) and Lesser Whitethroat (3rd). Two

Semi­pal­mated Sand­pipers were at Vaul Bay (30th). Four Buff-breasted Sand­pipers were at Loch a’ Phuill (4th) with an­other at Sandaig (2nd-5th). An Amer­i­can Golden Plover was at Ken­o­vay (26th-30th), with a Pa­cific Golden Plover at Mid­dle­ton (1st). A Hobby was at Hynish (1st), Mediter­ranean Gull at Bale­mar­tine (4th), Yel­low-browed War­bler at Car­nan Mor (27th), three Pied Fly­catch­ers at Car­nan Mor/ Bale­phuil (4th-12th), a Red­start at Car­nan Mor (24th-27th), 12 La­p­land Bunt­ings (from 4th) and a Snow Bunt­ing at Bale­mar­tine (29th). Sea­watch­ing off Hynish pro­duced a Sabine’s Gull, two Leach’s Pe­trels, 19 Storm Pe­trels, two Grey Phalaropes and 28 Sooty Shear­wa­ters. Aird (29th) logged a Sabine’s Gull, three Sooty Shear­wa­ters, 35 Arc­tic Skuas and 13 Great Skuas. East­erly winds brought in three Whitethroats, a Gar­den War­bler, Grasshop­per War­bler, eight Black­caps, six Chif­fchaffs in­clud­ing a Siberian-race bird, 17 Wil­low War­blers, eight Sedge War­blers, 36 Gold­crests and 20 White Wag­tails. Wader max­ima were 398 San­der­ling, 340 Ringed Plovers, 345 Snipe, 28 Ruff, 12 Knot, 11 Curlew Sand­pipers, 14 Whim­brels, 120 Bar-tailed God­wits, 155 Black-tailed God­wits and a Jack Snipe. Six Hen Har­ri­ers, two Spar­rowhawks and five Mer­lins hunted. Wild­fowl in­cluded 60 pale-bel­lied Brent Geese, 71 Pink­feet and seven Whooper Swans. Dr John Bowler (john.bowler@rspb.org.uk)
