HIGH­LIGHTS: Twenty Red-throated Divers were off Pa­pay, with two Great North­ern Divers off North Ron­ald­say and a Black-throated Diver in the Bay of San­doyne. Two Slavo­nian Grebes were in Ech­naloch Bay. North Ron­ald­say logged peaks of 869 Sooty Shear­wa­ters, 128 Manx Shear­wa­ters, a Great Shear­wa­ter, nine Storm Pe­trels and 1,335 Gan­nets. Wild­fowl max­ima were 43 Whooper Swans, 5,000 Pink­feet, eight Brent Geese, a Bar­na­cle Goose, 400 Wi­geon, 600 Teal, 100 Mal­lards, 13 Pin­tails, 25 Shov­el­ers, a Man­darin on Swart­mill Loch and a Vel­vet Scoter at San­doyne. An Osprey and four Mer­lins were on North Ron­ald­say, with a Hobby at Hestily. North Ron­ald­say had three Water Rails and two Corn Crakes. Wader max­ima were 1,065 Golden Plovers, an Amer­i­can Golden Plover on San­day, seven Grey Plovers, 69 Knot, 95 San­der­ling, 26 Pur­ple Sand­pipers, two Lit­tle Stints, two Curlew Sand­pipers, Pec­toral Sand­pipers at The Merk­ister and Swart­mill Loch, 11 Ruff, two Buff-breasted Sand­pipers at North Ron­ald­say, Bur­ray and Deer­ness, 484 Snipe, four Jack Snipe, 156 Black-tailed God­wits, 100 Bar-tailed God­wits, six Whim­brels, two Green­shanks, a Spot­ted Red­shank, two Green Sand­pipers, a Wood Sand­piper, Com­mon Sand­piper and two Grey Phalaropes. Two Arc­tic Skuas and six Lit­tle Auks were off North Ron­ald­say. A Mediter­ranean Gull was in Bir­say Bay. An Ice­land Gull was at the Peedie Sea and a Sabine’s Gull at Both­ican, Pa­pay. A Tur­tle Dove was on San­day, while 23 Wood­pi­geons on North Ron­ald­say came from who knows where! Eleven Swifts were in the Bay of Skaill. North Ron­ald­say logged a Wry­neck, 898 Meadow Pip­its, two Tree Pip­its, 13 White Wag­tails, a Yel­low Wag­tail, a few Robins, Red­starts and Whin­chats, 349 Wheatears, a Ring Ouzel, three Sedge War­blers, a Marsh War­bler, Ic­ter­ine War­bler (with an­other at East Den­wick), two Barred War­blers (with an­other at Sand­side), two Whitethroats four Lesser Whitethroats, five Gar­den War­blers, eight Black­caps, 20 Yel­low-browed War­blers, a Wood War­bler, 37 Wil­low War­blers, five Chif­fchaffs, two Spot­ted Fly­catch­ers, eight Pied Fly­catch­ers, a Red-breasted Fly­catcher, Red-backed Shrike, five Mealy Red­polls and three Cross­bills. An Arc­tic War­bler, Red-breasted Fly­catcher and 50 Ravens were on San­day. A Bram­bling was in Evie. Twenty Lesser Red­polls were in Ren­dall. A Com­mon Rosefinch was near The Whale­bone, Bir­say. Four were on North Ron­ald­say, with eight Snow Bunt­ings, 110 La­p­land Bunt­ings and an Or­tolan Bunt­ing. A Rus­tic Bunt­ing was on Pa­pay. Eric Meek HIGH­LIGHTS: An Eastern King­bird was at Eoli­garry, Barra (29th-30th). A Yel­low-billed Cuckoo was at South Dell, Lewis (28th). A Swain­son’s Thrush was at Bor­nish (22nd-25th). The Western Sand­piper re­mained at Bal­ranald (to 4th). A Baird’s Sand­piper was at Bois­dale (7th). Lesser Yel­lowlegs were at Loch Sti­a­pab­hat (7th-8th) and Stei­nis (10th-11th). OTHER SITES: A Surf Scoter flew south at Ard­vule (27th). A Red-necked Grebe was on Loch Branahuie (27th). Sooty Shear­wa­ter pas­sage peaked at 915 past the Butt (7th), with 32 south at Ard­vule (6th) and 14 past Barra (10th). A few Leach’s Pe­trels were seen from the Ul­lapool-stornoway ferry. Three were at Ard­vule on three dates, and seven passed Barra (27th). The Crane re­mained all month. Amer­i­can Golden Plovers were at the Butt (7th), Bal­ranald (8th-9th), Bern­eray (20th-21st) and on Barra (29th). Seven Grey Phalaropes were seen. A Red-necked Phalarope was at West Gerin­ish (25th). Seven Buff-breasted Sand­pipers and three Pec­toral Sand­pipers were logged. Five Po­ma­rine Skuas were seen. Ard­vule logged a Long-tailed Skua (10th), three Sabine’s Gulls and three Black Terns. Two other Sabine’s Gulls were noted. A Tur­tle Dove was in North Bay (28th). A Citrine Wag­tail was at Stinky Bay (26th). Four Barred War­blers and four Yel­low-browed War­blers were found. A Red-backed Shrike was at Lusken­tyre (29th).
