SWAN RESEARCH SETBACK

Bird Watching (UK) - - News Wire -

Human swan Sacha Dench (who featured in last month’s news pages) suffered a setback in her attempt to follow the Bewick’s Swan migration from Siberia to Slimbridge. The conservationist dislocated her kneecap during a landing on uneven ground, in October. After receiving treatment in St Petersburg, including the fitting of a knee brace, Sacha found herself unable to run, and therefore unable to take off. Undaunted, her paramotor was adapted to take a tricycle carriage, and she continued the journey, finally reaching Estonia where she joined more than 3,000 Bewick’s Swans as they take a rest on their epic journey.
