The car park at SZ 574 786 is a place for scanning – or maybe just sitting in the car if you’ve got your weather conditions right. Meadow Pipits and Linnets show well here along with Stonechat, Kestrel and Sparrowhawk. Grey Partridges may be present.
Wander a little way down the slope of Nansen Hill, then retrace. There’s mature tree cover here for tits, woodpeckers, warblers, thrushes and corvids. Ravens fly overhead, so keep a look out.
The downland itself (SZ 572 795) can reveal Stonechat, Dartford Warbler (they breed here), Linnet, Meadow Pipit, Greenfinch, Wren and various warblers. Adder are possible here on the paths and raptors are overhead.
Return to the car park via a different path to pick up what you could have had before!
