Black Guille­mots nest close by in holes in the quay walls of the Old Har­bour. Check the rocks to the right of the car park at high tide for Oys­ter­catch­ers, Turn­stones and Pur­ple Sand­pipers.

Win­ter­ing Red-breasted Mer­gansers, Great North­ern and Red-throated Divers, Great Crested and Lit­tle Grebes are al­most cer­tain, joined in stormy weather by Ra­zor­bills and Guille­mots. Har­bour has Lit­tle, Mediter­ranean, Ring­billed, Ice­land and Glau­cous Gulls.

Sol­dier’s Point, which can at­tract win­ter­ing Snow Bunt­ings, pro­vides op­por­tu­ni­ties for sea­watch­ing. Manx Shear­wa­ters and Gan­nets in the au­tumn, Ra­zor­bills and Guille­mots in the win­ter.

Scrub and wood­lands are worth ex­plor­ing, es­pe­cially at mi­gra­tion time while con­tin­u­ing to the coast should add Chough, Raven and Stonechat to your day’s list.
