JELLY EAR

Once autumn has ceded to winter, the skeletal trunks and branches of deciduous trees and shrubs reveal their secrets. Although they may appear bereft of life, look closely at an Elder, say, and you may spot a Jelly Ear fungus seemingly glued to the bark. This bizarre life form is gelatinous to the touch and looks distinctively (and quite disturbingly) like a floppy human ear.
