HIGH­LIGHTS: Star birds were two rap­tors: the county’s third Pal­lid Har­rier at Grey­lake RSPB (16th-18th) and the first White-tailed Ea­gle since 1945 at Black Down, then Ched­dar Reser­voir (28th-29th). A Lesser Yel­lowlegs vis­ited Meare Heath (20th), Steart Marshes (22nd-23rd) and Ched­dar Reser­voir (25th-31st). A Cat­tle Egret was seen at Wall Com­mon (16th), then Steart Marshes (22nd-23rd); another was at Mud­g­ley (28th-30th). Two Glossy Ibises re­mained on the Avalon Marshes all month. Record num­bers of Yel­low-browed War­blers were noted (up to 23), with an un­prece­dented 10 along the coast in a sin­gle day (4th). Eleven White-fronted Geese flew over Ber­row (9th); another was on Ched­dar Reser­voir (30th). An Eider passed Hurl­stone Point (15th). A Scaup was on the Axe Es­tu­ary (30th). An Osprey flew over Meare Heath (21st), and Hen Har­ri­ers were at Grey­lake RSPB (16th), Steart Marshes (16th-18th), and Westhay Moor (31st). Four Arc­tic Skuas and eight Great Skuas passed Mine­head (2nd). Waders in­cluded a Curlew Sand­piper at Huntspill Sea Wall (2nd), six Ruff at Meare Heath (16th), and a Spot­ted Red­shank on the Brue Es­tu­ary (24th). Great Grey Shrikes were at Chets­ford Wa­ter (21st-22nd) and Brean Down (30th). A pos­si­ble Red-throated Pipit was seen briefly at Huntspill Sea Wall (4th); a Wa­ter Pipit was there (30th), and three more on the Axe Es­tu­ary (25th).
