METROPOLI­TAN ES­SEX: Thir­teen Yel­low-browed War­blers were re­ported. Ring Ouzels were wide­spread. Wanstead Flats logged Wood Lark, Short-eared Owl, Hawfinch, Jack Snipe, 15 White­fronts and a Great Grey Shrike. Leyton Flats had a Serin and Hawfinch. Short-eared Owls were at four fur­ther sites. Firecrests were at five sites. A Black Red­start was at the Olympic Park. An Osprey flew over Wood­ford Green. A Bittern was at Seventy Acres Lake. MID ES­SEX: Ab­ber­ton logged Black Red­start, Black-necked Grebe, six Lit­tle Stints, Spoon­bill, three Whooper Swans, two Slavo­nian Grebes and 715 Great Crested Grebes. A Honey Buz­zard was over Brightlingsea. A Rough-legged Buz­zard was at Al­res­ford. Wiven­hoe had Jack Snipe, Hobby, Turtle Dove, three White­fronts, a Yel­low-browed War­bler, Dart­ford War­bler, three tun­dra Bean Geese and a Dusky War­bler. A Glossy Ibis and Hen Har­rier were at Fin­gringhoe Wick and Lan­gen­hoe. Five White­fronts and a Black Brant were at Old Hall Marshes. West Mersea had a Black Brant, four White­fronts, eight Eiders and a Cat­tle Egret. A tun­dra Bean Goose was at Hey­bridge GP. An Is­abelline Shrike was at The Hythe. N ES­SEX: A Shag, 60 Great Crested Grebes, a Red-necked Grebe, two Black-necked Grebes, a Scaup and Great Skua were off Wrab­ness. A Hen Har­rier was at Beau­mont. Another was at Wix, with a Rough-legged Buz­zard and Short-eared Owl. Cat­tawade Marshes had 19 White­fronts. A Great White Egret was near Great Hol­land. Wig­boro Wick held seven Ring Ouzels, 22 White Wag­tails, a Yel­low-browed War­bler, 21 Tree Spar­rows and a Waxwing. Two Great Grey Shrikes and a Black Red­start were at Colne Point. The Naze had two Yel­low-browed War­blers, a Great Grey Shrike, Hoopoe and a Black Brant. Hol­land Haven logged three Po­ma­rine Skuas, a Sooty Shear­wa­ter, 2,652 Brent Geese, five Vel­vet Scot­ers, a Red-throated Diver, Great North­ern Diver, Leach’s Pe­trel, Lit­tle Gull, Sabine’s Gull, Yel­low-browed War­bler, two Pur­ple Sand­pipers, 27 White­fronts, a tun­dra Bean Goose, four Short-eared Owls and a Med Gull. Frin­ton had 2,304 Brent Geese, Great North­ern Diver, two Great Skuas, six Med Gulls, two Yel­low-browed War­blers, Great Grey Shrike, three Firecrests, 104 Robins, Red­start, seven Wheatears, 205 Black­birds, 129 Song Thrushes, 22 Black­caps, 145 Gold­crests, a Yel­low Wag­tail, 44 Wrens, 18 Pink­feet, White­front, three Short-eared Owls, five Ring Ouzels, 133 Field­fares, three Tree Spar­rows, Waxwing, Dart­ford War­bler, Hawfinch, Pal­las’s War­bler, Snow Bunt­ing, Richard’s Pipit and 471 Goldfinches.

RAINHAM MARSHES: High­lights in­cluded a Spoon­bill, three Great White Egrets, two Cat­tle Egrets, 17 Lit­tle Gulls, Sand­wich Tern, Arc­tic Tern, Kit­ti­wake, Arc­tic Skua, 10 Caspian Gulls, 30 Yel­low-legged Gulls, 25 White­fronts, two Brent Geese, Whooper Swan, Spot­ted Red­shank, Turn­stone, Bar-tailed God­wit, sev­eral Jack Snipe, Short-eared Owl, Lit­tle Owl, two

Goshawks, 29 Buz­zards, Hen Har­rier, Marsh Har­ri­ers, Red Kite, Pere­grine and two Mer­lins. There were sev­eral Ring Ouzels, the odd Bram­bling and Lesser Red­poll, Mealy Red­poll, six Tree Spar­rows, Bearded Tits, Whin­chats, Wheatears, Tree Pipit, Whitethroat, two Yel­lowham­mers, Dusky War­bler, Snow Bunt­ing, Wood Lark and Ravens.

SE ES­SEX: A Glossy Ibis was at Wat Tyler CP. Two Short-eared Owls and a Pur­ple Sand­piper were at West Can­vey. There were 1,574 Avo­cets at Muck­ing Bay. TTNP had a Yel­low-browed War­bler, Red Kite, two Cat­tle Egrets and two La­p­land Bunt­ings. East Til­bury logged Arc­tic Tern, Black Tern, Grey Phalarope and Ravens. A Manx Shear­wa­ter was off Can­vey. Yel­low-browed War­blers were at Shoe­bury, Gun­ners Park and Great Wak­er­ing. Three tun­dra Bean Geese, Hen Har­ri­ers, Short-eared Owls, Mer­lin and La­p­land Bunt­ing were at Wal­lasea. Twelve White­fronts flew over South Wood­ham Fer­rers. A Great White Egret was in Pot­ton Creek. A Shore Lark was at Wak­er­ing Stairs, with two at Deal. Brad­well BO logged two Hen Har­ri­ers, 12 Med Gulls, four Firecrests, Pal­las’s War­bler and Yel­low-browed War­bler. A Red Kite flew over Bournes Green, with a Goshawk over Hut­ton. Howard Vaughan
