Golden Eagle numbers are soaring, according to the latest national survey from the RSPB and Scottish Natural Heritage. This year’s survey counted 508 pairs, a 15% increase on the previous survey in 2003. Significantly, the results mean that the Golden Eagle now meets the targets needed to identify it as species having “favourable conservation status” in the UK. Slightly less welcome is the news that Scotland may now be home to all of the UK’S Golden Eagles.
