The lat­est sur­vey of Cranes in the UK has re­vealed that a record break­ing 48 pairs at­tempted to breed in 2016. The sur­vey also recorded an es­ti­mated to­tal of 160 Cranes, the high­est num­ber since the species re­turned to the UK in 1978 af­ter be­ing ab­sent for over 400 years. And the news gets even bet­ter; 14 chicks were fledged in 2016, two more than the av­er­age over the last five years.
