One of the great walks on Islay, into real wild land! Pass through the top of Port Askaig on a very scenic route past lochs and rough habitat to a distillery at Bunnahabhain.
Park above the distillery on your left and follow the path over the bridge of the Margadale River. Follow the rough path across the moor.
A slight detour gives you views over the top half of Bunnahabhain Bay, where divers are a good bet .
The path moves away from the sea and follows a telegraph pole line to the lighthouse. Look for Twite on the wires and herds of Red Deer around you.
The lighthouse has a wooded garden attracting migrants to drop into the cover after they have been lured here by the light. Scan the sea here for divers and eagles crossing to Jura.
We walked back the way we came, but the real energetic can walk back via the dunes and Loch Gruinart.
