As you can tell from the pre­vi­ous pages, struc­ture is a vi­tal com­po­nent of ID. Bill size and shape is very much part of this, par­tic­u­larly when look­ing at long-necked birds in flight. For in­stance, dis­tant Cranes and storks look some­what sim­i­lar, in size, struc­ture and flight style, but the bill of a stork is much longer and more con­i­cal than a Crane’s.
