As you can tell from the previous pages, structure is a vital component of ID. Bill size and shape is very much part of this, particularly when looking at long-necked birds in flight. For instance, distant Cranes and storks look somewhat similar, in size, structure and flight style, but the bill of a stork is much longer and more conical than a Crane’s.
