1 Turn off the A849 at Pen­nyghael after scan­ning Loch Scridain for divers, mer­gansers and Ot­ters. 2 Check the forestry for dis­play­ing rap­tors flush­ing the conifer-lov­ing finches and look out for Red Deer en­joy­ing the cover of the trees. Re­cent ‘clear fell’ will pro­vide food for hunt­ing har­ri­ers and owls. 3 Drive down to the bay check­ing the wood­land for breed­ing birds and look over the nat­u­ral har­bour for divers, sea duck and sea birds. 4 Mull’s bril­liant coast­line can be ex­plored by walk­ing west to­wards Mal­colm’s Point and the ‘Carsaig Arches’, which is an amaz­ing rock for­ma­tion, look­ing out for ea­gles on the way. 5 Walk­ing east again takes you un­der some sheer cliffs with graz­ing goats, ea­gles hunt­ing above you and sea caves and Loch Buie to aim for.
