HAIRY DRAGONFLY

Dragonflies can be slow to get going in spring, but one of the first of these über-predators to be airborne is the Hairy Dragonfly. By emerging early, it steals a march on the hawkers that it resembles; those larger, but similarly striped ‘dragons’ don’t fly until June/july. Although locally distributed in southern Britain and Ireland, it is spreading rapidly.
