Bird Watching (UK) - - Species Stonechat -

It is only through scientific studies that we are able to discover so much about our birds. There are numerous colour ringed studies of Stonechat in Britain, which rely on bird watchers reporting sightings. It is these sightings that allow researchers to discover the migratory movements of this characterful little bird. You can help by reporting any sightings or recoveries to the BTO via thering/main/ website. These projects can, and do, throw up new and extraordinary records, including one from March 2016 when a Stonechat that had been colour ringed as a chick in East Anglia in May 2015, was photographed in Norway, 750km away across the vast open North Sea!
