CINNABAR

Few moths have more easily recognisable and highly visible caterpillars than the Cinnabar. Thickly striped with black and flaming yellow, the ‘cats’ proclaim their toxicity through their garb as they feed boldly in the upper stems of a Common Ragwort plant. If only the larvae’s warning were intelligible to horses, many unfortunate equine deaths from consumption might be avoided.
