BIRDS OF KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

One of the world's best-known and most iconic wildlife-watching destinations, the Kruger National Park boasts diverse and colourful birdlife. This guide, in the now familiar Princeton/wildguides style, does it justice with superb photography, and is excellent as a practical guide to use in the field (259 species are covered). There's a question, I suppose, as to whether you'd buy it rather than the comprehensive Birds of Southern Africa guide, for example, but it's a thing of beauty in its own right, so will appeal to any birders heading to South Africa. Species are grouped according to habitat, which should help speedy ID in the field, although it can take some getting used to. The text is concise but clear and thorough, and it's a compact and light volume, easily fitted in a waistcoat pocket. Recommended.
