Most fungi throw up widely spaced fruit­ing bod­ies – the parts we see above ground. Sul­phur Tuft is very dif­fer­ent, form­ing dense and of­ten spec­tac­u­lar clumps (or ‘tufts’) on dead wood. Com­mon and wide­spread through­out Bri­tain, it flour­ishes in both conif­er­ous and de­cid­u­ous for­est, splash­ing colour lib­er­ally around the dark wood­land floor.
