Tommy’s be­ing rapidly for­got­ten

DEAR Edi­tor, I don’t know about any­one else but I thought Armed Forces Day, for a city like Birm­ing­ham, was pa­thetic. It gets less and less ev­ery year. Even Re­mem­brance Day is not the same any more.

Have they not got any time for them any more?

I know that Labour Leader Jeremy Cor­byn has not.

He could not even show re­spect to The Queen dur­ing her speech by bow­ing his head.

We used to have lovely pa­rades at one time, like go­ing around the streets in Birm­ing­ham.

All gone. But they can find the room for the Ger­man Mar­ket to come ev­ery Christmas!

Rud­yard Ki­pling had it in a nut­shell all those years ago with his po­ems about the army. Tommy Then it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, ‘ow’s yer soul?” But it’s “Thin red line of ’eroes” when the drums be­gin to roll... F H Jen­nings, Birm­ing­ham
