Tommy’s being rapidly forgotten
DEAR Editor, I don’t know about anyone else but I thought Armed Forces Day, for a city like Birmingham, was pathetic. It gets less and less every year. Even Remembrance Day is not the same any more.
Have they not got any time for them any more?
I know that Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn has not.
He could not even show respect to The Queen during her speech by bowing his head.
We used to have lovely parades at one time, like going around the streets in Birmingham.
All gone. But they can find the room for the German Market to come every Christmas!
Rudyard Kipling had it in a nutshell all those years ago with his poems about the army. Tommy Then it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, ‘ow’s yer soul?” But it’s “Thin red line of ’eroes” when the drums begin to roll... F H Jennings, Birmingham
