Jake getting back in the swing of it

Birmingham Post - - SPORT -

JAKE Livermore was itching for international action with England after playing down the reasons behind his recent break at Albion.

“I missed one of the (league) games due to having some time off and the manager having the luxury of a deep enough squad to change,” said the midfielder.

“We’ve got a great squad (at West Brom). I didn’t get much time off in the summer and it was just a slight break in giving me a rest.”

There had been widespread concern for Livermore’s wellbeing after Baggies boss Tony Pulis left him out of the squad to face West Ham last month.

“Physically he is fine but, mentally, he just feels a little bit tired,” Pulis said. “We don’t want to risk him going into a deeper, deeper, deeper hole.”

The head coach has since admitted he used the wrong choice of words and said: “I should have just said he had a hamstring injury and that would have stopped all the press and speculation.’’

All is well in the Livermore camp as the 28-year-old prepares for this week’s internationals.

Most of Livermore’s caps have come this year under Gareth Southgate, who has named him in all four of his squads as permanent England manager.
