This is not summer, this is a disaster...

-

DEAR Editor, The last weekend of July was the first time for weeks that I slept properly and did not have to water the plants.

This is the driest and hottest summer since 1961 and the effects have been dramatic.

However, what is more dramatic has been the mindless comments on the radio since the rain stopped and the heat rose again. Every DJ and commentator has said it is wonderful the sun is out and the summer back again. This is not summer, it is a disaster. What is the problem with people who want the sun to shine all the time and hate the rain?

We are running out of water and if people do not understand that our bodies need water to survive, how come we are so ignorant?

It’s not just the grass and the plants which need water, so failing to make the link that rain keeps us alive is the road to ruin.

Farmers are rightly pointing out that their plants are dying and animals cannot be kept alive – one farmer who is sending animals to be killed early said that abattoirs cannot cope with demand for prematurely killing animals.

We already know that children do not know milk comes from cows, but how come adults do not know where supermarkets get food from?

Since radio commentators get feedback from listeners, it’s clear that the population now cannot understand that into every life a little rain must fall, and not having rain is life threatening.

Who is trying to get that basic point across? Not the Government, I fear!
