Teenager suspected of being a slave
A TEENAGER has been rescued after it was suspected he was being used as a slave.
There were fears the 18-yearold Romanian male was being controlled and exploited by an older man in Erdington during the past three months, police said.
Investigators from the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) and officers from West Midlands Police staged an operation to rescue the man on Tuesday.
The victim has been safeguarded and he will receive the help he needs through the National Referral Mechanism (NRM), a framework for ensuring potential modern slavery victims receive the help and support that they need.
A 27-year-old Romanian man was arrested on suspicion of a modern slavery offence.
He has now been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
GLAA officers also used their Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) powers to search and seize evidence.
