Life-saving equipment at village shop
A new defibrillator for the local community has been installed in Meigle.
The life-saving equipment is located on the wall of the Spar shop in the village and has been purchased following an amazing fundraising effort at the end of last year which saw an incredible £2000 realised in just 12 days.
Local resident Doris Scott was one of the driving forces behind getting the defibrillator for Meigle.
She explained:“We always hold a Christmas craft fair for various local causes and this year we decided to raise money for a defibrillator.
“We raised £1178 at the fair and the Spar generously donated £500. Meigle Carpet Bowls folded and donated £370 from its accounts to the fund, a local artist donated £100 and there were other significant donations from members of the community as well.
“We also held a collection for the defibrillator at the Christmas lights switch-on in December.”
Doris added that another local resident, Kevin Stirling, had been providing CPR training in the village and will be holding more classes in the future.
She said:“The training gives people the confidence to use the defibrillator and to perform CPR should they need to.”
Paul Howie, area manager for Spar, commented:“We are delighted to be able to help out the local community by providing the location for the defibrillator and installing it as well.
“We look forward to working with Doris to supporting the community further in the future.”
