Blairgowrie and Rattray Access Network

One job remained after the cutting back work and litter picking at Knockie – burning the considerable amount of cut growth before bird nest-building season gets under way.

Six members gathered on the hill and set a fire, away from the trees to avoid scorching them.

Over two hours all the cuttings had been dragged from the various heaps and consumed on the fire.

The group left the hill and all that remained of the fire were the hot ashes.

The hill is now free of all nuisance growth and the trees that must have been first planted more than 30 years ago are now free to grow unhindered.

At a recent committee meeting, BRAN members agreed to a system where individual members will adopt one of the many core paths and will undertake to monitor their condition on a regular basis.

The group would be grateful if members of the public could also alert them to any issues that they may come across as they walk the path network.

The group plans that all main core paths should be maintained to a good standard during the year and always appreciate help. Members of the public can contact BRAN secretary, Ian Richards, or any member of the group, to report areas of concern.

Anyone wishing to help or join the group can contact Ian via 01250 871122, 07787 317022, ian_richards2007@yahoo. com or through Facebook.

Special Treats Group

Organiser Shonaidh Beattie said the group recently enjoyed a short break to Lower Largo, Fife.

The group stayed at the Crusoe Hotel, which sits at the harbour, and everyone was made to feel very welcome and the service and food were excellent.

During the visit, the group enjoyed a trip to St Andrews where they visited the botanical gardens and the aquarium.

They also visited Kirkcaldy for some retail therapy and enjoyed a relaxing afternoon at Muddy Boots, Balmolcom for afternoon tea.

The group is now looking forward to future breaks which include trips to Inveraray, the Outer Hebrides and Ireland.
