Housing association welcomes decision
The new development at Blackthorn Place first came to light at the start of the year when it was announced that Hillcrest Housing Association had secured close to half a million pounds in developers’contributions to construct 71 new affordable homes in Blairgowrie.
Elected members of Perth and Kinross Council agreed to hand the housing association“commuted sums” worth £471,500 to develop the new dwellings at Blackthorn Place at a meeting of the council’s enterprise and infrastructure committee in January.
Hillcrest secured the sum after requesting the cash be taken from the council’s affordable housing developers contributions fund for the Strathmore and the Glens Housing Market Area (HMA).
David Zwirlein, Hillcrest Housing Association director of development and new business, welcomed the decision by the local authority’s planning and development management committee to approve the planning application last week.
He said:“We’re delighted that planning permission has been granted for this new development in Blairgowrie as demand for affordable housing in the area is high with the number of applicants each year heavily outweighing the available lets.
“We have a long standing history of providing a good housing management service to tenants in our homes.
“We have successfully delivered a number of developments in similar areas throughout Perth and Kinross which have been well received in their areas due to the need for high quality affordable homes.
“In partnership we will deliver 71 homes at Blackthorn Place which will all be built to a high standard with a number of energy efficiency features.
“These homes will be let by ourselves and Perth and Kinross Council in accordance to our housing allocation policies.”
