QUALITY WORK
Tommy Dix on the active Golden Gloves club in Liverpool
GOLDEN GLOVES held a quality show at Fusion on April 25.
In a contest that had everyone on the edge of their seats Collyhurst & Moston’s Wycombe King defeated Golden Glove’s Gary Stables. Stables went straight on the attack, throwing hooks and jabs. While King covered up and showed good defensive moves behind a high guard and countered when in range.
Just before the bell to end the
first Wycombe saw the opening and dropped Gary with a left and right to the head.
They proceeded to test each other’s resolve with Wycombe King getting the verdict.
At heavyweight Holyhead & Anglesey’s Reuben Wall made the journey worthwhile with a points verdict over Golden Gloves’ Khalid Mhadi. In another heavyweight bout Perry King, Northside ABC, defeated Salah Al-muntassir, Golden Gloves, a contest full of skill and quality.
With Astley VIP’S Jason Weir giving a wonderful display of controlled boxing, featuring a cultured, fast and hard jab and throwing combinations to head and body, Golden Glove’s Mohammed Alwarith with his nimble footwork and lateral movement was happy to join the fray with clusters of punches. It was a matter of opinion which you preferred, the stylish boxing of Weir or the eye-catching smarts and moves of Alwarith. The judges decided that Weir had gained the verdict.
Dawit Ybrah (Golden Gloves) was edged out by Collyhurst & Neston’s George Kileen. Sefton’s
Joe Flemming got the nod over Golden Gloves Hussam Salem.
The Golden Gloves ABC hold a show every month such is the love and interest in the sport in this area.
