GERMAN ADVENTURE

Islington take on Landau at the Reisbach festival

-

ISLINGTON BOXING CLUB finished the 2016/17 season on a high, defeating BC Landau 4-3 in a team match last month at Volksfestplatz, Reisbach in a very close and competitive show. The guest of honour was Henry Maske (former IBF light-heavyweight champion). This was the third meeting between IBC and Landau and a fourth encounter between the two clubs is pencilled in for April next year in London.

Connor Daly (49kgs) opened the show and dominated from the off against Michael Kisseler

(BC Landau). Kisseler struggled to cope with Connor’s switch-hitting with the Islington youth boxer not wasting any of his shots. Connor won unanimous to put Islington into the lead.

Borys Feldman (Islington, 70kgs) got into his rhythm early on and he disheartened Wladimir Kosak (BC Landau), hurting him to the body and head to slow the pace down. Borys took home a unanimous decision victory in his first three-threes contest.

Middleweight Anders Eggan

(Islington) made his debut for IBC on the trip, after moving to England from Norway to further his amateur boxing career. He found it difficult on the back foot against Andrey Merzlyakov (BC Landau), losing a unanimous decision to give the Bavarian club their first victory.

Lamin Conteh (Islington, 71kgs) was in control from the off against Simon Haufellner (BC Landau) but he was stuck in one gear. He landed single jabs cleanly and took a unanimous decision.

Ola Alausa (Double Jab ABC, 81kgs) gave away weight in his contest against Dominik Lutzenberger (BC Landau). The Double Jab boxer moved in and out with his shots. He fatigued and received a standing eight count from the referee before the end of the second. The last round was very close with both boxers having success but it was Lutzenberger who got the nod on a split decision.

Mateusz Szczepkowski

(Islington) lost unanimously to

Jan Miehling (BC Landau), which drew the team match level. The first round between the heavyweight boxers was close. Mateusz was unable to find his range and allowed his opponent to land combinations during the second and third rounds.

It came down to the final contest of the day which saw superheavyweight Jeamie Tskieva

(White Hart Lane, 110kgs) up against Malsam Niko (BC Landau, 112kgs). The White Hart Lane boxer, guesting for Islington, landed the eye-catching punches and earned a unanimous decision victory, winning the team match.

The club’s Reggie Hagland said, “I’d like to thank Peter Prechler and all at BC Landau for their wonderful hospitality during the trip. It was a brilliant experience for all involved, we were treated like royalty and we look forward to welcoming them over in London next year which will no doubt be another competitive match between our two clubs.”
