ES­SEX EBA is host­ing a pre­sen­ta­tion night for Liverpool ex-pros Billy Aird and Pat Thomp­son, who will re­ceive replica Cen­tral Area ti­tle belts to mark their ti­tle wins in 1970 and ’76 re­spec­tively. John Con­teh and Colin Dunne will make the pre­sen­ta­tions on Oc­to­ber 14 at the Con­ser­va­tive Club, 16-18 Clarence Street, Southend-on-sea, Es­sex, RM13 7HD. ARTHUR ‘AL’ WOR­RALL, 1928-2017

ARTHUR “Al” WOR­RALL, the 1949 ABA heavy­weight champ, has died aged 88. Born De­cem­ber 23, 1928, in Ip­swich, Wor­rall held the dis­tinc­tion of beat­ing fu­ture world heavy­weight cham­pion Inge­mar Jo­hans­son in 1951, and fu­ture Bri­tish, Com­mon­wealth and Euro­pean ti­tlist Henry Cooper in ’53. But “Big Al” never turned pro.
