EX-BOXER ASSOCIATION NEWS
RON LAND AND ALFIE HILLS, R.I.P THERE’S news of the passing of two long-standing London EBA (LEBA) members in the latest LEBA newsletter. Ron Land, who died on August 20, aged 91, was originally from the East End and boxed for Repton in his youth. Ron’s idol was Sammy Mccarthy. During the war, Ron was in the Parachute Regiment and at his funeral his coffin was carried into the crematorium by Paratroopers with full military honours. Ron donated to many charities, including LEBA.
Alfie Hills was cremated on August 23 at the Islington Crematorium, with over 100 friends and family members present. Alfie was connected with boxing for most of his life and worked in the meat market alongside his good friend, Islington ex-pro George Hollister. LEBA members in attendance at the funeral included George and his wife Linda, Dixie Dean, Tony Garrett and Ray Caulfield.
