ON Friday [September 29] Team Joshua scooped a cluster of gongs at the annual British Boxing Board of Control Awards, which covers the previous boxing season [August 2016-July 2017].
The IBF and WBA heavyweight champ, who wasn’t in attendance at the ceremony in Lancaster Gate, won Boxer of the Year, his 11th round victory over Wladimir Klitschko scooped Contest of the Year, while Robert Mccracken was named as the Boxing News Trainer of the Year. Mccracken also won the Dennie Mancini Trophy, which recognises the achievements of former Commonwealth champions.
Errol Spence Jnr was named as the Overseas Boxer of the Year, while legendary trainer Jimmy Tibbs picked up the Sir Henry Cooper Services to Boxing Award.
There were also Special Awards for Duke Mckenzie and Dr Roger Evans.
