ON Fri­day [Septem­ber 29] Team Joshua scooped a clus­ter of gongs at the an­nual Bri­tish Box­ing Board of Con­trol Awards, which cov­ers the pre­vi­ous box­ing sea­son [Au­gust 2016-July 2017].

The IBF and WBA heavy­weight champ, who wasn’t in at­ten­dance at the cer­e­mony in Lan­caster Gate, won Boxer of the Year, his 11th round vic­tory over Wladimir Kl­itschko scooped Con­test of the Year, while Robert Mccracken was named as the Box­ing News Trainer of the Year. Mccracken also won the Den­nie Mancini Tro­phy, which recog­nises the achieve­ments of former Com­mon­wealth cham­pi­ons.

Er­rol Spence Jnr was named as the Over­seas Boxer of the Year, while leg­endary trainer Jimmy Tibbs picked up the Sir Henry Cooper Ser­vices to Box­ing Award.

There were also Special Awards for Duke Mcken­zie and Dr Roger Evans.
