ACTIVE ISLINGTON

- Reggie Hagland updates us on the club’s latest show

ISLINGTON BOXING CLUB hosted their second home show of the season last month at the Boston Dome, Tufnell Park. In total, there were 13 contests on the open show, with a boxer from the home club on one side of the bill in each bout.

Chris Cunningham (Islington, 76kgs) won on a unanimous decision against London rep, Eliab Sisseye (Earlsfield ABC). The opening round was tight with Sisseye [inset, on left] taking it with his longer reach and eye-catching jabs. Cunningham however battled through with strength and a high work rate to take the victory.

The other senior contest on the night was Laura Weis (Islington, 52kgs) against Kate Goss (Westside ABC). Weis started off brightly in the first round but started to fade in the second and Goss strongly came back into the contest. The Westside boxer narrowly won the last round to take a unanimous decision. Goss also received the ‘Best Away Boxer of the Night’ award.

Ernie Swinhoe won his first contest in three years against

Henry Monksfield (Five Star ABC) on a unanimous decision. Swinhoe gave Monksfield a standing eigh count in the last round. Light-heavyweight Eli Musah

(Islington) won the opening round against Omoregbe Egharevba

(Miguel’s ABC). But disaster struck when Musah ran out of gas and was stopped in the second. Kyron Hughes

(Islington, 45kgs) recorded his second win in Islington colours in under a week by defeating Bruce Parker (Five Star) on a unanimous decision. It was a scrappy opening round between the pair but then Kyron upped his work rate to take the win. Atila Reznan (Islington, 52kgs) struggled to get going against Lucas Roehrig (All Stars ABC). Reznan wasn’t himself and the referee rightly stopped the contest in the third round.

Young Frankie Watson

(Islington, 34kgs) was named ‘Home Boxer of the Night’. Making his debut for the club against Patrick Mcdonagh (White Hart Lane BA), he put in a dominant performance. Watson gave Mcdonagh a standing eight count in the third round and won on a unanimous decision.

Southpaw Sami Amin

(Redbridge ABC) took the last two rounds and won on a unanimous decision against Caiden Hughes

(Islington, 48kgs).

Harry Betteridge (Islington, 43kgs) recorded a unanimous decision win against Sonny Shepard (Kent Gloves ABC) in a superb display of boxing.
