Jon Bruce sees a quintet of Scots emerge victorious
ON a show staged by Kynoch Boxing Promotions at the Lagoon Leisure Centre, Ayr’s Calvin
Mccord [inset] stepped up to six rounds for the first time against Stockport’s experienced Jamie
Quinn. Mccord’s smart footwork and impressive punch variety saw him coast to a comfortable 60-54 win from referee Darren Maxwell.
Trigger Wood dominated Islington’s Jordan Grannum from the opening bell, landing punches to head and body throughout and barely taking a shot in return. Referee Paul O’connor had an easy job in scoring this bout 40-36 to the Dumfries man.
Martin Taylor from Livingston went up against Rochester’s tricky
Ricky Rose. Taylor took a 59-56 decision from referee John Mcguire.
Killin’s Monty Ogilvie secured a points victory over
Michael Horabin of Mottram in Longdendale. Referee O’connor scored the bout 60-54. In an exciting debut performance, Neil Mccubbin from Drongan came up against Manchester southpaw Steven Maguire. The fighters went at it over four entertaining rounds, but “Cubby” was always that bit sharper to the punch. Referee Mcguire awarded the first-timer a 40-36 win. CORRECTION: In last week’s issue (October 11), the show in Paisley featuring Scott Allan against Gary Rae was referred to as a Sam Kynoch promotion. In fact, the event was promoted by Saltire Boxing Promotions.
