WALE REWARD

French trip for battling Yorkshireman

Boxing News - - PREVIEWS -

BARNSLEY battler Josh Wale gets due reward for his fine form (seven straight wins) in the shape of a vacant European bantamweight title shot at the Gymnase Lassalle (Europrom) in Vesoul, France tomorrow (Friday October 26). Standing in the opposite corner will be southpaw Georges Ory, whose modest 9-2-1 (1) record suggests that the much more experienced Wale, 27-9-2 (13), has every chance of winning. Ory does hold the EBU’S secondary EU belt, won by beating Razmik Grigoryan in March, and had become French champion before that by overcoming previous conqueror Jeremy Beccu. But Wale has boxed nine 12-rounders to Ory’s one – and can use his ring savvy to earn victory on points.

Meanwhile, one of the men Wale has beaten, Bristol’s Ashley Lane, defends his Commonwealth super-bantamweight title against Robbie Turley at the Newport Centre (Sanigar Events) on Saturday (October 27), live on S4C. Northampton-born Lane is only 12-8-2 (1) but has won his last five. Cefn Fforest’s Turley, 18-6 (4), is a former unbeaten holder of this title, but hasn’t boxed in 18 months. Lane can retain on points.
