A PETITION has been launched to get rocker Ozzy Osbourne a knighthood.

The 17,000-strong petition urges the Cabinet Office to nominate Osbourne, who lives in Jordans, for a knighthood, saying he deserves it for services for his charity work and ability to beat his addictions.

The Black Sabbath frontman said he had heard about the campaign and that he quite liked the idea.

He said: “Getting knighted? I can’t imagine anything better. And my wife (Sharon) would become a Lady, which would be pretty cool.

“But I’m not going to get upset if it doesn’t happen. I never thought I’d get further than Aston (his birthplace in Birmingham).”

His comments come after thousands signed an online petition for him to be honoured in the Queen’s list.

The petition was started by Helen Maidiotis, who said: “I am campaigning for Ozzy Osbourne to receive a knighthood, as he thoroughly deserves this honour.”

The Queen issues honours on the advice of the Cabinet Office.

Recommendations are sent to its Ceremonial Secretariat to be considered.
