‘Support us at the final’
CHALFONT St Giles Bowling Club ladies have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Vi Trundell competition.
They will take on Bletchley on Sunday, August 24 at Waddesdon, where the match will start at 10am – supporters will be very welcome.
On the downside, they were unable to end the unbeaten record of Denham in their last match in the Burnham Plate. The team of Flora Alderton, Liz Baldwin, Denise Rogers and Lyn Carroll were defeated 20-9.
The men went down 73-52 to Iver Heath in the Thames Valley League, losing three of the four rinks but earning a point for the one drawn game, skipped by Ian Mcleod.
There was also a loss in the Three Counties match at Chessvale. Chalfont had their annual struggle adapting to the artificial green and were beaten 127-79.
Graham Buchanan, Linda James, Hazel Baker and Mike Alderton had the top winning rink, of 27-19. Morgan Kavanah made his debut as Chalfont picked up two points to their opponents’ 10.
But there was better news in the friendlies, with a string of four wins.
Joyce Cripps, Alan Rumble and Bob Crowford won 23-14 to help lead their side to a 84-76 victory over Ladygate. Crowford was also part of the highest winning rink, with Pearl Howl and Pam Anderson, as Chalfont beat Yiewsley and West Drayton 65-58.
Bobbie Richards, Norman Clare and John Anderson recorded a 30-4 triumph as Chalfont won 105-78 against Aylesbury Town and, in their match with the visually impaired group, Chesham Pioneers, they narrowly won 31-27. Howl, Rob Kirby and Brian Hedley were the top rink.
