‘Sup­port us at the fi­nal’

CHAL­FONT St Giles Bowl­ing Club ladies have qual­i­fied for the quar­ter-fi­nals of the Vi Trun­dell com­pe­ti­tion.

They will take on Bletch­ley on Sun­day, Au­gust 24 at Wad­des­don, where the match will start at 10am – sup­port­ers will be very wel­come.

On the down­side, they were un­able to end the un­beaten record of Den­ham in their last match in the Burn­ham Plate. The team of Flora Alder­ton, Liz Bald­win, Denise Rogers and Lyn Car­roll were de­feated 20-9.

The men went down 73-52 to Iver Heath in the Thames Val­ley League, los­ing three of the four rinks but earn­ing a point for the one drawn game, skipped by Ian Mcleod.

There was also a loss in the Three Coun­ties match at Chessvale. Chal­font had their an­nual strug­gle adapt­ing to the ar­ti­fi­cial green and were beaten 127-79.

Gra­ham Buchanan, Linda James, Hazel Baker and Mike Alder­ton had the top win­ning rink, of 27-19. Mor­gan Ka­vanah made his de­but as Chal­font picked up two points to their op­po­nents’ 10.

But there was bet­ter news in the friendlies, with a string of four wins.

Joyce Cripps, Alan Rum­ble and Bob Crow­ford won 23-14 to help lead their side to a 84-76 vic­tory over Lady­gate. Crow­ford was also part of the high­est win­ning rink, with Pearl Howl and Pam An­der­son, as Chal­font beat Yiewsley and West Dray­ton 65-58.

Bob­bie Richards, Nor­man Clare and John An­der­son recorded a 30-4 tri­umph as Chal­font won 105-78 against Ayles­bury Town and, in their match with the vis­ually im­paired group, Che­sham Pi­o­neers, they nar­rowly won 31-27. Howl, Rob Kirby and Brian Hedley were the top rink.
