Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - SPORT -

CHESHAM’s C team’s victory over Stony Stratford was arguably the best result of the week.

Thanks to a last-gasp winning shot from Sue Springell, it came in the mixed over-60s double rink Buckinghamshire/ Oxfordshire Zone Final of the Tony Allcock trophy.

It was a tightly fought contest, with Sylvia Warrington, Tony Strudwick, Roger Elliston and Lin Wright earning a first rink score of 27-25, before Terri Keen, Geoff Denham, Roy Rodgers and Springell edged Chesham (pictured) to the win with a score of 20-21.

Chesham are now at home to Broadway (Worcestershire) in the area final, with a place at the National Championships at stake.

Earlier in the week, David Sills beat Neil Thompson 21-15 to win the County Unbadged singles championship, capping off a magnificent individual season.

Other results were more mixed. Helen Fillery, Brian Cox, Lyn Birch and Roy Rodgers were Chesham’s only winning rink against Chiltern and Thames Association, who won 127-103.

High Wycombe had the upper hand in the annual Benevolent Cup by an aggregate score of 13 shots over two legs, despite a winning rink from Derek Puddephat, Eileen Perry, Toni Nightingale and Norman Green.

However, Chesham did win at Flackwell Heath, 107-102. Mo Bailey, Alan Lammin and Howard Cave impressed, scoring 18-8.
