Two won, three lost
THERE were mixed emotions at County Finals day for Gerrards Cross, who contested five of the seven events.
David Ross and Richard Reid led all the way to a fine win in the pairs (21-16) and Duncan Gauld, Neil Farnish and Chris Poole took the triples crown against Bletchley Town (18-17), which needed an umpire’s decision.
Richard Reid got into a strong position in the singles at 14-7 but was caught and passed by Malcolm Drage of Bletchley Town (21-15).
In the U25 singles, Tom McGuinness was defeated 21-12 by Phil Gregory, of Princes Risborough, who also defeated Neil Farnish in the Two Woods final (17-11).
John McGuinness, who is in Commonwealth Games action this week, reached round five of the National Champion of Champions competition with a 21-16 win over Mark Sykes, of Banbury Borough. He now faces Drage; and both will represent Bucks in the national finals at Leamington Spa.
