Medals galore at end of sea­son meet­ing

AMER­SHAM Swim­ming Club came home proudly from the end of sea­son Long Course Meet, in Wy­combe, as third club over­all at the week­end.

Swim­mers, rang­ing from na­tional qual­i­fiers to the nine-year-olds un­used to com­pet­ing in a 50 me­tre pool, col­lected a host of medals and per­sonal bests

By the end of the week­end Amer­sham had amassed an im­pres­sive 80 top three fin­ishes be­tween the 34 swim­mers com­pet­ing, in­clud­ing 19 gold, 36 sil­ver and 25 bronze medals.

Char­lie Mes­sen­ger was the win­ner of the se­nior fi­nal for the blue rib­bon 100m freestyle sprint, with a time of 56.77, while fastest girl was Rosie Whit­taker, win­ning the ju­nior fi­nal of the 50m freestyle in 28.54.

There was also a long course club record for Hugo Bel­lamy while win­ning his gold in the 400 in­di­vid­ual med­ley in 5:02.78, beat­ing the pre­vi­ous one held by Will Ham­mond since 2008.

Other gold medal­lists for the boys were Joseph Horstead, 11, Fraser Bry­don, 16, Tom Strud­wick, 16, and Harry Pen­dered, 17.

Strik­ing gold for the girls were 11-year-olds Stephanie Roy­croft, Amelie Brown and Roisin Hynes, 12-year-olds Ceara Bar­ber and Ella Pa­trick, Amy Hor­top, 13, and Katie Dibbs, 15.

Swim­ming in the ju­nior fi­nals were Ge­orgina Bradley (third in the 50m back­stroke), So­phie Lawrence (sec­ond in the 50m fly); Ella Pa­trick (50m back­stroke) and Lily Pear­son (100m freestyle).

The se­niors were Bel­lamy (50m freestyle), Ge­orge Sim­mons (100m fly), Bry­don (50m freestyle), Dibbs (100m fly, 50m breast­stroke and 50m fly), Polly McGrath (50m and 100m fly and 50m back­stroke), Pen­dered (100m freestyle and 50m breast­stroke) and Strud­wick (50m fly & freestyle).
