Medals galore at end of season meeting
AMERSHAM Swimming Club came home proudly from the end of season Long Course Meet, in Wycombe, as third club overall at the weekend.
Swimmers, ranging from national qualifiers to the nine-year-olds unused to competing in a 50 metre pool, collected a host of medals and personal bests
By the end of the weekend Amersham had amassed an impressive 80 top three finishes between the 34 swimmers competing, including 19 gold, 36 silver and 25 bronze medals.
Charlie Messenger was the winner of the senior final for the blue ribbon 100m freestyle sprint, with a time of 56.77, while fastest girl was Rosie Whittaker, winning the junior final of the 50m freestyle in 28.54.
There was also a long course club record for Hugo Bellamy while winning his gold in the 400 individual medley in 5:02.78, beating the previous one held by Will Hammond since 2008.
Other gold medallists for the boys were Joseph Horstead, 11, Fraser Brydon, 16, Tom Strudwick, 16, and Harry Pendered, 17.
Striking gold for the girls were 11-year-olds Stephanie Roycroft, Amelie Brown and Roisin Hynes, 12-year-olds Ceara Barber and Ella Patrick, Amy Hortop, 13, and Katie Dibbs, 15.
Swimming in the junior finals were Georgina Bradley (third in the 50m backstroke), Sophie Lawrence (second in the 50m fly); Ella Patrick (50m backstroke) and Lily Pearson (100m freestyle).
The seniors were Bellamy (50m freestyle), George Simmons (100m fly), Brydon (50m freestyle), Dibbs (100m fly, 50m breaststroke and 50m fly), Polly McGrath (50m and 100m fly and 50m backstroke), Pendered (100m freestyle and 50m breaststroke) and Strudwick (50m fly & freestyle).
