LITTLE CHALFONT (Evening) WI
Pearl enthusiast Frances Benton was the speaker at our July meeting. Last year, she entertained us with her talk ‘A Passion for Pearls' and such was the interest she generated, she was invited back for a very lively followon presentation ‘Pearls of Wisdom'.
Frances explained how cultured pearls are created and showed us how to test pearls by rubbing them gently against our teeth; if they feel gritty, they are not fake! We were encouraged to handle pearls of all colours, shapes and sizes while hearing about how to chose and wear pearls, the colour of which would complement the skin.
While watching a demonstration of the art of pearlknotting, when Frances knotted a necklace and made a pair of earrings, we learned how to care for pearls.
During the rest of July there will be a visit by the Craft Group to Wallingford to explore the craft shops, an evening walk to a local pub and a visit to Eltham Palace. We have no formal meeting during August but we will, as usual, provide the refreshments at the monthly farmers' market; there is also a visit to Kensington Palace and our annual President's Summer Lunch to look forward to.
Dr Jill Eyers will be our speaker on September 9 when the subject will be ‘Amazon Adventure'.
We meet in Little Chalfont Village Hall at 7.45pm and visitors are always ensured a warm welcome. www. littlechalfonteveningwi.blogspot.com.
