De­tec­tion rate in area ‘low’

THAMES Val­ley Po­lice has one of the low­est de­tec­tion rates, with just 27.3 per cent of cases closed.

Just 15.1 per cent of of­fences dealt with by Thames Val­ley po­lice were dealt with us­ing a charge/ sum­mons in 2013/14, one of the low­est rates in Eng­land and Wales.

Over­all, Thames Val­ley Po­lice has one of the low­est de­tec­tion rates with just 27.3 per cent of cases closed.

Just 25.2 per cent of sex­ual of­fences cases in Thames Val­ley were closed, one of the low­est rates in Eng­land and Wales, but drug of­fences had the high­est rate (89.6 per cent).

Crim­i­nal dam­age and ar­son had the low­est de­tec­tion rate (15.3 per cent) of all of­fences, and theft (16.5 per cent), while a quar­ter of rob­beries had cases closed.

Data from the po­lice sug­gests the rea­son why cases are not closed in half of cases is be­cause no sus­pect has been iden­ti­fied.
