Waggoners’ bowling attack comes up shy

lbw, rapidly followed by Andy Thompson getting a top edge to leave Waggoners 10-2 by the fourth over.

Rollo McIntyre and Davies rebuilt the innings before the latter was bowled for 23, Richard O’Kelly made a quick-fire 18, before being caught, as was McIntyre with the Ballinger run rate well ahead of Downley’s.

It accelerated even further with the advent of Will Smith at the crease as he smashed two mighty sixes, before being stumped and then Max Dugdale made 31, before perishing lbw.

That made it 159 for 7, with 10 overs left, and while Monty Thompson finished unbeaten on 29 there was no one left to keep the requisite momentum up and the innings ambled along to finish on 194-9 when the overs ran out.

Meanwhile, Ballinger’s U13s girls were outgunned by Newport in the eight-a-side regional final.

Ballinger posted a creditable 87-3 against very strong rivals, but Newport knocked off the runs in 15 overs.
