Vasey seals a surprise victory
Bucks captain Ron Hedley won the toss and decided to bat and the Amersham Hill player probably regretted that decision three balls later as he was out for a duck and Francis Braganza was run out soon after. But George Nelson put in a sterling performance batting for 44.3 overs to end on 78no and with support from Penn & Tylers Green duo Terry Bentley (27 no) and Steve Coleman (13) they got to 175-6.
Bucks started well with the ball as Jim Spooner (2-20) and Dave Burton (0-13) bowled their nine over spells straight through and Hampshire were only on 38-2 off those 18 overs.
Then Vasey took over on his home ground, which was hosting its first county match, and with support from Bentley (1-11), who took his wicket with his first ball, Roger Garrini (1-20) and Francis Braganza (1-19) and a run-out, Hampshire were all out for 119.
Meanwhile, Bucks suffered a sixwicket defeat in their Unicorns Counties Eastern Division match against Staffordshire.
