Businesses sought as sponsors

Buckinghamshire Advertiser - - NEWS -

A SCHEME to encourage companies to sponsor council-owned land has had a promising start.

Beaconsfield Town Council trialled a scheme earlier this year, and appealed for businesses to come forward if they were interested.

The idea was to get businesses and other groups to pay for the upkeep of a particular area, in exchange for advertising.

The council now has an agreement with Market Force and Universal Care Ltd for sponsorship of the brick planters and garden area outside the Town Hall, in Penn Road.

Councillor Philip Bastiman, the chairman of the open spaces committee, said this would provide a ‘good income’.

The scheme will now be extended to other areas – the council is looking for businesses that might be interested in sponsoring Market Square, opposite the White Hart, in Aylesbury End.

Mr Bastiman said: “We have businesses interested in sponsoring that site and investing in them. I think it’s working well.”
