Fes­ti­val a taste of the Chilterns

Lo­cal food pro­duce on sale and demon­stra­tions of coun­try crafts at event

A FOOD fes­ti­val will take place at an es­tate in the Chilterns this week­end.

The Na­tional Trust and Chilterns Con­ser­va­tion Board have or­gan­ised the Chilterns Coun­try­side and Food Fes­ti­val, which will take place at Ashridge Es­tate, near Berkham­sted, on Sun­day, from 10am to 4pm.

The fes­ti­val will lo­cal pro­duce chil­dren’s ac­tiv­i­ties, dis­plays and more.

This is the eighth year of the fes­ti­val, which has more than 100 stands demon­strat­ing the var­i­ous ac­tiv­i­ties, crafts, in­dus­tries and wildlife as­so­ci­ated with the Chilterns have stalls, craft coun­try­side, show­ing how they work to­gether to help pro­mote and pre­serve our lo­cal coun­try­side.

Cathy Rose, from the Chilterns Con­ser­va­tion Board, said: “The Chilterns coun­ties of Bucks, Ox­ford­shire, Hert­ford­shire and Bed­ford­shire are home to a huge va­ri­ety of food pro­duc­ers, artists, crafts peo­ple and en­vi­ron­ment or­gan­i­sa­tions and this event them.

“Un­like other craft and food events, where ex­hibitors could have come from any­where in the coun­try, more than 95 per cent of the ex­hibitors at the Chilterns Coun­try­side Fes­ti­val come from within 25 miles of the Chilterns Area of Out­stand­ing Nat­u­ral Beauty, so vis­i­tors to the show re­ally are buy­ing lo­cal.”

More than 40 food stands will be sell­ing lo­cal pro­duce rang­ing from cheeses, cakes and chut­neys to pies, pas­tries and poul­try. Hot food will also be avail­able at the event.

and ceram­ics, re­pur­posed cloth­ing, plus jew­ellery, cards, photographs and ac­ces­sories. Many of the stall hold­ers will be demon­strat­ing their skills and, in some cases, peo­ple can even have a go.

There will also be live mu­sic.
