Drone views village from a highly different perspective
Amateur cameraman surprised by the greenery
A FILMMAKER has captured stunning aerial footage of a village in a high-flying home video.
Roger Allen, 47, sent a drone into the sky above Chalfont St Peter and filmed its landmarks along with his nephews and nieces who run below the camera.
Mr Allen spent about £1,800 on the Phantom 2 drone which has a high definition camera and a set of gyroscopes to keep the shot steady.
He said: “I’m completed addicted. It is an amazing piece of technology. It is so incredibly different.
“I did not realise Chalfont St Peter was so green. On the ground you do not notice but from up there it is all trees.”
Mr Allen, originally from Chalfont St Peter, now lives in London and works in IT.
He shot the film over weekends spent in the village with nephews Torin, 11, and Henry, seven, and 15-year-old niece Rowenna, of Lower Road, who siblings sprint through shots as the camera flies above them.
Henry, who makes his own films on YouTube, was particularly happy to be involved.
Music from The Ride of the Valkyries plays over the epic video, which films places such as Winkers Farm, Brunel Viaduct, Chalfont Heights and the former Holy Cross Convent.
“I have never seen Holy Cross before and didn’t realise how big it was,” (Right) Torin Allen, Rowenna Allen, Henry Allen and Roger Allen with the drone that captured (left) this shot of Chalfont St Peter added Mr Allen. “Holy Cross has been one of the best parts of our history and it’s about to disappear.
“If there was permission I would like to film more of the convent before it is developed – it would be an honour.”
Mr Allen bought the drone to film a documentary he is producing called The Devil on Wheels, about Steven Spielberg’s film Duel.
The drone is remotely controlled, if the battery is low it automatically returns to Mr Allen and it restricts itself from flying near airports.
Mr Allen says more videos of Bucks are in the pipeline.
