Eight goals get new boys off to great start
CHESHAM SUN LGE
CHESHAM Sunday League new boys Maclay got off to a flyer in the Berks & Bucks Junior Trophy on Sunday, writes Graham Barkus.
Eight goals without reply proved a great way to start their county cup campaign, Matt Ashby taking the plaudits with five goals, while Rob Prunty and Adam Cowland chipped in with two and one respectively, as they met with little resistance from opponents Hazlemere Sports Reserves.
There was less to cheer in the other two ties involving CSL teams. Chiltern Chargers went down 5-0 to Swans Reserves, while Queens Head suffered a single goal home loss to Wycombe Marsh.
Meanwhile, the scheduled League Cup opener between Old Belmont and Eldorado, plus the Premier fixture featuring Misty Moon and Pioneer were both postponed, but two games did go ahead.
They saw a comprehensive win for Dinamo Chequers against Last Post, and a point apiece for Magpies 91 and Chalfont Saints.
Dinamo now top the division and look to be a serious title contender with their goal scoring power, and five more to add to the four on week one came courtesy of two from Ciprian Chelseau and one each from Nabeel Hamed, Alister Deacon and Trevon Moora.
Two of Dinamo’s probable title rivals, Magpies 91 and Chalfont Saints, ended all square after sharing four goals. Toby Francis and Ali Horner netted for Mags, but Aaron Benmore and Dave Shepard ensured parity on the day.
Division One action was limited to two matches, with Anchor (Tring) and Pioneer Reserves recording three-goal margin wins. Anchor were on target five times against Chesham Athletic, via Dan Steadman (2), Dan Willis, Andy Norris and Tom Dell, while Jason Duncan and Ben Duncan added some respectability to the 5-2 scoreline for the visitors.
Pioneer Reserves entertained Magpies 91 Reserves and they ran out comfortable 4-1 winners after a 4-1 success. Whitfield (2), Partridge and RichardsonHill all found the net, while Chris Reddington provided Magpies’ consolation. SUNDAY’S FIXTURES Premier Division: Eldorado v Last Post, Magpies 91 v Pioneer.
