Charity bowled over by cheque
GENEROSITY: Elaine Ball (left) with Brenda Anderson, president of Denham Bowls Club, and Lawrie Smethurst, president of Dennyside Bowling Association TWO sport clubs have raised hundreds of pounds for a children’s cancer charity.
Denham Bowls Club and Dennyside Bowling Association held a day of bowling at Denham’s ground, in Denham Way, earlier this month, followed by dinner in the evening. Donations were collected from players and added to funds already raised by the Denham club during the past few months.
The total raised for Thomas Ball Children’s Cancer Fund has now reached £2,200.
The charity was set up in memory of 14-year-old Thomas Ball, a former Misbourne School pupil, who died of cancer in 2003.
His mother, Elaine, visited the club to receive the donation.
“I was amazed to receive such a massive amount of money. This will really make a difference to our work and will be used to benefit children with cancer and leukaemia,” she said.
“I would like to thank Denham Bowls Club for choosing us as their charity for this year and Dennyside Bowling Association for their contributions on the evening.”
