THIS week, I’m featuring the delightful Mr McHenry’s trike with a pop-up Zebedee character in the back.

This toy was produced as a result of the incredible popularity of the 1960s children’s TV series, The Magic Roundabout.

The series originated in France and was originally called Le Manège Enchanté. When it was dubbed into English and transmitted in more than 400 five-minute segments by the BBC, it attained cult status.

In addition to Mr McHenry, the gardener, and Zebedee, a jack-in-the-box, the stop-motion animation classic featured Dougal the dog, Dylan the hippy rabbit, Brian the snail and Florence the little girl.

This toy was made between 1972 and 1974 by Corgi, one of the leading TV-related toy companies of the time.

Many children played with this particular toy and, in mint condition and with its original box, it’s worth putting by for a rainy day.

Who knows, 10 years from now it could be worth several hundred pounds.
