Parish to im­ple­ment ‘laid to lawn’ rules

Coun­cil chair­woman Linda Smith said she could not an­swer ques­tions at the meet­ing due to le­gal rea­sons. She said a fam­ily is tak­ing le­gal ac­tion against the coun­cil over the rules.

Mrs Smith told the Ad­ver­tiser: “The parish coun­cil un­der­stands that some fam­i­lies are very un­happy with the Gar­den of Rest’s laid to lawn pol­icy, and they have our sym­pa­thy. At the same time, we must point out that th­ese reg­u­la­tions are not new.

“They have been in place since 2011, be­fore any graves were pur­chased in the new laid to lawn sec­tion of the gar­den.”
