Strong feelings over grave plan
Parish to implement ‘laid to lawn’ rules
possible because an insurance clause prevents the site being maintained by anyone other than the council.
Council chairwoman Linda Smith said she could not answer questions at the meeting due to legal reasons. She said a family is taking legal action against the council over the rules.
Mrs Smith told the Advertiser: “The parish council understands that some families are very unhappy with the Garden of Rest’s laid to lawn policy, and they have our sympathy. At the same time, we must point out that these regulations are not new.
“They have been in place since 2011, before any graves were purchased in the new laid to lawn section of the garden.”
